The Gambler

Permeated spendthrift
on the brink of obstinacy,
his mind riddled with pockmarks
of previous wasteful outings
Spellbinding partnerships with telling robbers
Apprehensive bankers saw him coming
with motherly admonitions to clean up his act
The hapless commuting between home and casino
was taking its toll but masked his barren gaiety,
still smiling through afloat on his imagined affable dinghy
But his dissipated revenue was Nature’s revenge
